PROJECT —
Hosts Map
An interactive space to better visualize and manage cloud-hosted infrastructures
Opportunity
A basic infrastructure monitoring view was included in the MVP release of AppOptics, but it was lacking in features and functionality that many of our competitors were offering. Customers were looking for a more visual and interactive representation of their hosts (not just a table), with more ways to slice and dice, and tailor the view to their needs.
My Role & Impact
In partnership with product and design leads, I helped to define user stories, brainstorm high-level interactions, explore low-fidelity concepts, and pitch/get buy-in for our initial approach. Over several months, I continued to iterate and refine designs for the overall page layout, host units, and various custom filter patterns. What made this design challenging was that it needed to simultaneously display all hosts upfront, and scale to fit any size infrastructure, from 0 to 3000 hosts.
By providing customers with a bird’s eye view of their infrastructure, they are able to see everything in one place, quickly spot outliers, and easily access key details by clicking on any host or group of hosts. Upon release, the updated hosts view greatly improved the user experience for day-to-day analysis and troubleshooting.
